Steps 1. Turn Editing on in your course (usually located in the upper right-hand corner).
2. Navigate to the section or week where you want the assignment to appear. 3. Click the + Add an activity or resource button. 4. Select Assignment (identified by the pink icon). 5. In the General section, enter the Assignment title (required). 6. In the main instruction box, write clear and detailed instructions for students. 7. Under Availability, set the Due date (this automatically adds the assignment to the course calendar). 8. (Optional) Enable and set a Cut-off date if you want to prevent late submissions. 9. Under Submission types, choose how students will submit work: ○ File submissions – students upload a file. ○ Online text – students type directly into the editor. 10. Under Grade, set the Maximum grade value. 11. (Optional) Under Grading method, change to Rubric if you plan to use advanced grading. 12. Click Save and display or Save and return to course. Tips and Notes ● Inline Grading: Moodle allows you to annotate and comment directly on common document types (PDF, Word, etc.) within the grading screen. ● Unique Naming: Use concise, descriptive names — assignment titles appear as Gradebook column headers. ● Formatting: Use text editor features (headings, bold text, bullet points) in instructions for clarity. ● File Format Issues: If graders cannot open or annotate a submission, it may be in an unsupported file type. ● Rubric Tip: If using rubrics, set them up under Advanced Grading after saving the assignment shell.
